Captain Jeff Richards



Captain Richards began his public safety career in 1985 with the Carroll County Fire Rescue where he remained full time until 1988. In 1986 he also began working with the Carroll County Emergency 911 Dispatch Center.

In 1988 he joined the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and graduated from the Georgia Police Academy and Floyd College in 1989.

He has served in the Uniformed Patrol Division, DUI Task Force, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Operations Unit and the Training Division.

He was promoted to Sergeant in 1998 while serving in the Criminal Investigations Division. In 1999 he was transferred to the Special Operations Drug Enforcement Unit where he supervised the local drug effort and the department's K9 officers.

In 2001 he was appointed as the Law Enforcement Training Director for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office where he handles the administrative functions of the Training Division; the maintenance and development of the Standard Operating Procedures for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office; the coordination and teaching of in-house training programs; and the coordination / supervision of the Field Training Program.

He is currently pursing a Criminal Justice Degree, and minors in Supervision and Management. He has received numerous certifications from the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council, which includes the Senior Deputy Sheriff Certification. He also holds several specialized instructor certifications in the areas of firearms, defensive tactics and speed detection devices. He is also a volunteer instructor for the Georgia Hunter Safety Education Program.

In 2010 He was promoted to Captain in the Jail Division. Captain Richards was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Divison in December of 2011.
